Primary Care Pressures
We are sure all our patients appreciate how busy the NHS is at this present time, with unprecedented patient demand across all primary care and hospital departments. We urge our patients to seek health care appropriately; this could be via our GPs or Nurse practitioner. However, can all patients please use our appointments in a sensible fashion. For minor ailments, coughs, colds etc please seek the advice of your local pharmacist.
NHS England is also encouraging people to ensure that their medication and first aid kits are well stocked and that repeat prescriptions are collected well before they run out. Anyone who needs medical advice or guidance can call NHS 111 where they will be directed to the right type of service including the out of hours’ doctor (GP) service.
Self Referring services are:

Can we also make you aware of the Little Orange Book, which provides expert help for parents and carers on how to manage common problems in babies and small children – ask your GP for a copy, or view it online below.
The Little Orange Book
Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commisioning Group (NGCCG) have developed a 'Little Orange Book' aimed at providing support to parents of young children. The book covers common minor illness, treatment and also times to seek medical assistance. They are available upon request via the Health visitor or when attending for childhood immunisations. Please see the PDF version below should you wish to download a digital copy.
We are a Teaching Practice who teach stage 1, 2 ,4 & 5 Students. Every 6 month we have a rotation of GP Registrars and every 4 month we have 2 Foundation level 2 (F2) Doctors who have came here from Hospital posts to learn primary care. This is a huge benefit to our practice as it improves access & brings modern medicine, without them there would be no future GP's.

Detailed Coded Record Access (DCRA)
We are now able to offer our patients access to their 'coded data' within their medical records as well as the availability to book appointments and request repeat medication. The coded data includes immunisations, problems, referrals, procedure codes and other useful information. You can request this service online (if you are registered for online services already) by logging in, go into manage account & request detail coded record, this sends a task to the Surgery who will grant access, if there are any problems you will be contacted.
Cardiovascular Risks. (CVR risk)
We use a QRISK calculator, it calculates your 10 year risk of heart attach & stroke over the next 10 years. Should the result be more than 10%, patients will be asked if they would like to be prescribed a statin medication to help reduce the risk.
Lifestyle changes you could make to help reduce your CVR risk without medication include:
- Regular exercise, at least 150 minutes per week
- A Balanced diet, at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day
- Quit smoking
- Moderating the amount of alcohol you drink
- Losing weight

Year of Care
Year of Care aims to provide personalised care planning for people with long term conditions by working in partnership with patients and care professionals.
How this works in practice, the patients will come in for their long term condition review with one of the nursing team , they will have their bloods taken , these will be sent to the lab, the patient will have a care plan sent out in the post with all the blood results updated, if the blood results come back abnormal the patient will be invited back in to discuss at greater length with either the GP or nurse and a new care plan.
